Lap Pool Etiquette & Guidelines

The lap pool is a multi-purpose pool designed for lap swimming and aquatic classes. Pool scheduling is subject to change and often includes multiple activities at any one time. For more information, visit our Lap Pool page.

  • There is no lifeguard on duty
  • Lap lanes will be reserved during posted aquatic classes
  • Sharing swim lanes is encouraged and a commonly accepted practice during peak swim hours (politely address current swimmer)
  • Swimmers are required to shower before entering the pool
  • Proper swim attire is required; aquatic shoes are highly recommended for classes
  • No diving or jumping into the pool
  • No food or beverages are allowed in the pool area
  • Admission to the pool is refused to all persons having any infectious or contagious conditions, or conditions which have the appearance of being infectious; persons with abrasions, open sores, wounds that have not healed or wounds requiring bandages are not permitted
  • When lanes are open, the lap pool is available to members—including adults and children of all ages—who are capable of lap swimming and want to build their endurance
  • Skill development, playing and splashing must be reserved for supervised swim times only
  • If lap swimming, children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult, or a registered participant in a swim lessons class
  • If lap swimming, children ages 11 and 12 must be accompanied by a parent in the natatorium
  • If lap swimming, children ages 13 to 15 do not need adult supervision; however, a parent must remain inside the building at all times
  • Persons under the influence of drugs and alcohol, or exhibiting erratic behavior are not permitted into the pool
  • No spitting, spouting of water, blowing your nose or introducing other contaminants into the pool is allowed
  • Personal conduct within the facility must be such that the safety of self and others is not jeopardized
  • Pool temperature range is 82-84º F

The pool will be closed and classes canceled in the event of a local electrical storm. We suggest you call (847) 535-7500 to get a pool closing update. An emergency phone is also located just inside the door to the swim hallway: (847) 535-7607.
